Description of activity
Windsor Mencap is a local charity supporting people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. We are a local charity, affiliated to but not funded by National Mencap.
In addition to our information and support services, we also run a number of clubs which provide a social setting where our members can come and relax, meet friends, play games, take part in activities and learn new skills. These include:
the Toffee Group, a monthly social club for people with mild learning disabilities. The group meet on the last Tuesday of the month. Recent trips have included theatre, cinema, bowling, BBQ, chocolate making and swimming. Members' independence and decision making is promoted.
a weekly club on a Wednesday with activities to suit everyone including arts and crafts, painting, flower arranging/planting, darts, snooker, table tennis and trips out.
a monthly club on a Friday focused on sporting activities including table tennis, darts, skittles and pool at our Clubhouse.
Please see the Mencap website for further information about the different clubs provided.
We also organise outings, a buddy scheme and holidays for our members, providing respite care for families.
Advocacy is also an important part of what we do, supporting people with special needs to speak out and be heard.
