Children’s Centres

All children’s centres have drop in groups where you can stay and play with your child. These may be general play sessions or activity based.  Some children’s centres hold sessions for children under five with SEN or disability.

Parent and toddler groups

These are groups for you to attend with your child. They will give you a chance to meet other parents and for you and your child to play together with other children.

These groups are usually run by other parents or volunteers. Some are drop in but others may require you to make contact before attending to check that there is not a waiting list. If you are unsure whether the group will be suitable for your child then it would be sensible to make contact first to speak to the organisers to help you decide. It might be a good idea to arrange a visit without your child so you can see what the group is like.

Other leisure activities

Our local offer directory contains details of groups that offer activities that are specifically aimed at children with SEN or a disability and some activities groups that have we know are fully accessible and inclusive.

Libraries will welcome you and your child. They sessions and activities during school holidays. Most are free or low cost.

Libraries also offer audio or “talking books”.

Our aim is to ask and encourage all activity providers in future to include information about accessibility and suitability for children with SEN or a disability and to improve the information on the Local Offer.
