Our aim is that all children and young people in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead receive a high class education to help prepare them well for their adult lives.
The majority of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are able to attend a nursery, school or college in their local area enabling them to stay with their peers and keep links with their local communities. Some children and young people who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, and have needs which can not be met within the local area, may be placed in an education setting outside of Windsor and Maidenhead. The type of provision will be based on an assessment of the child/young person’s individual needs.
We are required to include information on our Local Offer about the provision that we expect to be made available outside the local area for children and young people with special educational needs or a disability.
We are working on including listings of out of area provision on the Local Offer if we have a number of children placed there and it is a provision which we regularly use. This includes maintained, non maintained and independent provision in other Local Authority areas. These are marked with 'out of area provision' at the top of the listing. Please note therefore that not all out of area provision where we have an individual child or young person placed is included on our Local Offer.
We have also included the Section 41 list of independent special institutions on our Local Offer. The Section 41 list sets out all the independent special schools and special post-16 institutions that the Secretary of State for Education has approved and is updated on a termly basis. There are specific duties which apply to these institutions in relation to admissions.
In addition, we have also included a link to the NATSPEC (The Association of National Specialist Colleges) website where you can view information about the full range of specialist colleges.
