The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead's Virtual School acts as a champion to bring about improvements in the education of:
- children in care
- young care leavers
- adopted children and
- children subject to Special Guardianship Orders
The Virtual School promotes their educational achievement as if they were in a single school and ensure that they receive a high quality education as a foundation for improving their lives.
The Virtual School works closely with the Children and Young People Disability Service to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, who are not living at home due to their particular needs or family circumstances. Support may involve:
- Acting as an advocate for the child/young person
- Supporting any applications for an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan and providing professional evidence of their specialist educational needs
- Ensuring children and young people have a robust and effective Personal Education Plan and that is monitored and evaluated
- Attending Annual Reviews
